What is C25K?

You have made a decision to start running.  What do you do next?  A visit to your doctor for a health check-up is recommended prior to starting any exercise regimen.  And, then you ask, what do I know about running?  A program that is designed to help you start these efforts is “C25k” or Couch to 5k.  It doesn’t matter if you walk, run or a combination of the two, as long as you commit to about 40 minutes, three times per week.

Why pick C25k?

This program is a great introduction to get your body moving.  You begin by alternating between walking and running small distances slowly, building over a period of eight to nine weeks, until you are able to complete either a 5k (3.1 miles) or run/walk non-stop for approximately 30 minutes.  There are many websites that have their own C25k training plan and apps that you can download to your phone to help keep you focused and on track.

Below is an example of one plan that you can print out, cut out and tape to your fridge.
